Job Overview

Under the direct oversight of the Program Assistant, the Training Development Specialist I plays a crucial role in the organization, creation, coordination, and execution of training initiatives of moderate complexity. This position is integral to the implementation of the facility's extensive training framework.

The Training Development Specialist I leads training efforts within the facility, ensuring that educational objectives are met through collaboration and direct instruction. Responsibilities include conducting training sessions and workshops across various topics. Typical training initiatives encompass but are not limited to: leadership development for senior and mid-level management, comprehensive supervisory training, personalized employee development strategies, professional and technical education, specialized training sessions, and thorough orientation programs.

Utilizes Equally Effective Communication in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) to guarantee that interactions with individuals with disabilities are as effective as those with other individuals.

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify, candidates must possess experience that aligns with one of the following criteria, which may be combined proportionally to meet the total experience requirement of at least 30 months. Educational qualifications cannot reduce this 30-month requirement:

Option I: One year of experience in California state service performing duties akin to those of a Staff Services Analyst, Range C. (Candidates must have experience in California state service planning, organizing, conducting, and assessing employee training programs across various subjects.)

Option II:

Experience: Three years of experience in the planning, organization, execution, and evaluation of employee training programs covering diverse subjects. (Experience in California state service must include at least one year of duties comparable in responsibility to those of a Staff Services Analyst, Range C.)

Education: Equivalent to graduation from college. (Additional qualifying experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.)

Promotional candidates nearing the completion of the experience requirement for this role will be permitted to participate in the examination, but must fulfill the experience criteria before being eligible for appointment.

Special Requirements

  • The position requires successful completion of a Background Investigation prior to hiring.

If qualifications are met through education, unofficial transcripts/diplomas must be included for verification. Official transcripts may be required upon appointment. Candidates found not meeting Minimum Qualifications will be removed from the eligibility list, rendering them inactive and ineligible for the position.

New candidates to the organization are required to undergo a background investigation process, including Live Scan Fingerprinting and Tuberculosis testing prior to appointment, followed by annual Tuberculosis evaluations thereafter.
