Job Summary

This is a full-time, regular position in the Central Campus Facilities Landscaping/Grounds department at Broward College. The successful candidate will be responsible for supervising the performance of ground maintenance functions in a safe, productive, and time-efficient manner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Supervision and Leadership: Supervise work crews and ensure the safe and productive use of equipment utilized in grounds/landscape/irrigation maintenance and associated repair work.
  • Work Assignment and Coordination: Interpret job assignments to staff under charge and assign duties to crews of varying sizes and skills.
  • Staff Management: Responsible for people management of the area, including recommendation of staffing, hiring, termination, and discipline, setting performance standards, and evaluating staff.
  • Project Management: Independently plan and coordinate ground/landscape/irrigation maintenance projects; analyze and resolve work problems, and assist workers in solving problems.
  • Safety and Compliance: Ensure proper safety training of staff in chemical application and usage procedures, equipment operation, as well as records maintenance to comply with applicable regulatory standards.
  • Training and Development: Train and direct subordinates in the use, care, and maintenance of tools and equipment.
  • Leadership and Collaboration: Lead and direct work of subordinates, including selection, development, and performance evaluation.
Requirements
  • Education: Associate's degree required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered for some positions.
  • Experience: Three years general business or functional experience within the field, with three years supervisory or lead experience.
  • Certifications: Master Gardener Certification, Pesticide application certification, Landscape maintenance certification strongly preferred. Driver's license required.
