Overview
As a Lead Mechanic at the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the installation, upkeep, and functionality of all electrical systems within the powerhouse. Your leadership will guide a team of skilled tradespeople in their daily responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and engage in the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical circuits, transformers, and machinery.
- Direct the activities of journeymen and assistants, ensuring adherence to safety protocols and quality benchmarks.
- Manage safety clearances for electrical circuits, provide first aid when necessary, and enforce compliance with safety regulations.
Additional Responsibilities
- Ensure proper care and management of all electrical maintenance tools.
- Conduct maintenance and repairs on electrical systems in vehicles.
- Fulfill other assigned duties as required.
Work Environment
This position may require working in diverse weather conditions within the powerhouse, handling mechanical equipment and exposure to elevated noise levels.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Extensive knowledge of electrical trade practices, relevant codes, and safety standards.
- Familiarity with hydroelectric generating plant operations.
- Capability to install and repair powerhouse equipment, interpret electrical schematics, and effectively supervise personnel.
- Proficient in the use and maintenance of electrical tools and equipment.
Minimum Qualifications
Applicants must possess a minimum of five years of experience in hydroelectric plant operations or comparable high-voltage environments.
Promotional Criteria
- At least one year of prior experience as a Powerhouse Mechanic within the organization.
- Civil service status as a Powerhouse Mechanic.
