Job Summary:

Mary Cariola Center is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Direct Support Professional to join our team. As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities in their daily lives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement individualized program plans to facilitate active participation and engagement of residents in their homes and communities.
  • Implement behavior support plans and Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP-r) accurately and consistently.
  • Assist residents with daily living tasks, including bathing, toileting, dressing, and eating, while modeling appropriate behavior and using therapeutic equipment when necessary.
  • Perform housekeeping tasks, such as meal preparation, cleaning, laundry, and shopping, as needed.
  • Foster effective communication through various means, including sign language, pictograms, and electronic devices.
  • Accurately and consistently complete required documentation using PrecisionCare software and written records, when necessary.
  • Attend and actively participate in regular staff meetings, case reviews, in-service sessions, and other meetings scheduled or requested by the Residence Manager.
  • Implement fire, safety, and emergency procedures in accordance with agency and program standards.
  • Safely drive agency or personal vehicles when necessary and maintain Approved Driver Status within the agency.
  • Maintain certifications in Medication Administration, SCIP-r, CPR, and First Aid.
  • Administer medications to residents in accordance with Residential Medication policies and procedures.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English, including interpreting documents such as safety rules and policy and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to participate in various physical and recreational activities outside the residence.
  • Possess a current and valid NYS driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Have reliable transportation, as none of the group homes are located on a bus route.

Certifications and Trainings:

  • NYS Medication Administration.
  • SCIP-r.
  • CPR.
  • First Aid.
  • All other trainings mandated by the Office for People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD).
