Position Overview:

This role is situated within the Bureau of Indian Affairs, focusing on the Western Region. The successful candidate will leverage their extensive knowledge and proficiency in Electrical Engineering to evaluate the interconnected systems associated with the San Carlos Irrigation Project.

While a specific duration of experience is not mandated for most trade and labor roles, it is essential to exhibit through your experience and training that you possess the requisite knowledge and skills to perform the duties of the position effectively. The emphasis is placed on the quality of experience rather than the length of time.

Your qualifications will be assessed based on your level of knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or competencies in the job elements outlined below. This position includes a screen-out factor that will determine minimum eligibility. Candidates who do not achieve a minimum score on this element will be deemed ineligible.

Screen-out Element:
ABILITY TO PERFORM THE WORK OF A FOREMAN II WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION.

Evaluation Criteria:
In addition to the screen-out element, candidates will be evaluated on the following job elements through their application and responses to the online assessment questionnaire:

  • Knowledge of electrical equipment.
  • Theory and Instruments (Electrical, Electronic) Used in Shop and Trade Practices.
  • Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic).
  • Ability to Use Electrical Drawings.
  • Ability to Use and Maintain Hand Tools (Electrical Work).
  • Troubleshooting (electrical).

Experience Consideration:
Experience can include both paid and unpaid work. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may encompass volunteer work through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps) or involvement with community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work is valuable for developing critical competencies, knowledge, and skills that translate directly to paid employment.

Additional Requirements:
Applicants must hold a valid commercial driver's license (CDL) with Class A or B and all necessary endorsements to operate U.S. government-owned and leased vehicles and equipment. If selected, candidates will be required to provide a copy of their non-employment driving abstract.

Physical Demands:
This role may involve working in confined and awkward positions, with exposure to considerable noise, heat, and the risk of falling from heights. It requires significant standing and manual activity in operating equipment. Heavy lifting may be necessary, and candidates should be prepared for exposure to electrical hazards.

Working Environment:
Conditions may include exposure to grease, oils, fumes, dust, wind, and water, as well as working at heights and in varying temperatures. The role involves working around high voltage electricity and heavy machinery.

All qualification requirements must be fulfilled by the closing date of this announcement. Candidates must also meet time-in-grade requirements if applicable.
