Job Summary

Whole Foods Market is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Bakery Team Lead to join our team. As a key member of our retail operations team, you will be responsible for assisting the Team Leader in all aspects of daily operations, including profitability, expense control, buying, merchandising, labor, regulatory compliance, and special projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Excellence: Develop and maintain creative store layouts and product merchandising strategies to drive sales and customer engagement.
  • Team Leadership: Work closely with the Team Leader to achieve sales, purchasing, and labor targets, and assist in analyzing sales reports and labor data.
  • Product Knowledge: Demonstrate advanced product knowledge and stay up-to-date on new products and promotions.
  • Vendor Management: Maintain good vendor relationships, develop new vendor connections, and ensure all necessary paperwork is completed.
  • Customer Service: Foster a positive customer experience by responding promptly to customer needs and questions, and directing team members to ensure excellent service.
  • Team Development: Select, train, develop, mentor, motivate, and counsel team members to sustain a high-performance team and minimize turnover.
  • Performance Evaluation: Provide timely, thorough, and thoughtful performance evaluations to support team member growth and development.
  • Company Culture: Consistently communicate and model Whole Foods Market's vision and goals, and promote a positive and inclusive work environment.
Requirements
  • Experience: 18+ months of retail, culinary, or bakery team member experience and 6+ months of supervisory experience.
  • Skills: High energy, enthusiasm, and a growth mindset; excellent interpersonal, motivational, team building, and customer relationship skills; thorough product knowledge; advanced knowledge of regulatory and safety policies and procedures; proficient mathematical skills; demonstrated decision-making ability, leadership skills, and ability to prioritize and delegate.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to lift 50 pounds; standing/walking 6-8 hours in an 8-hour workday; hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling; work requires bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching; exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals; exposure to temperatures up to 90 degrees Fahrenheit; ability to work in wet and dry conditions; ability to work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed; ability to use tools and equipment, including knives, box cutters, electric pallet jacks, and other heavy machinery; may require use of ladders.
