Corrections Deputy

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Corrections Deputy to join our team at the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office. As a Corrections Deputy, you will play a critical role in maintaining the safety and security of our community, as well as providing support to our correctional facilities.
About the Role:
The Corrections Deputy will be responsible for a variety of tasks, including but not limited to:
- Booking, interviewing, classifying, and processing adults in custody into jail; conducting searches of adults in custody; releasing from custody and returning property.
- Counting, controlling, and monitoring adults in custody movement and activity in housing units, modules, cells, and open dormitory settings; monitoring suicidal adults in custody to determine if they require suicidal watch and providing counseling and coordination of medical services; conducting security and welfare checks and connecting adults in custody with mental health services; searching jail areas for contraband; securing and maintaining evidence.
- Escorting adults in custody to areas and events within the institution, court appearances, personal interviews, medical care, and other institutions; assembling and monitoring adults in custody for transports to and from other counties, state facilities, extraditions, and others; supervising and monitoring mealtimes and recreational activities; supervising adults in custody work crews; preparing daily work release logs and investigating and reporting violations.
- Controlling violent and/or mentally ill adults in custody; preparing daily count and adults in custody assignment sheets; documenting, recording, and writing reports on adults in custody behavior and other applicable information.
- Responding to backup calls for medical, adults in custody assaults, and other emergency situations; testifying in court related to crimes committed in custody.
- Maintaining security within the institution and overseeing the health and safety of staff, adults in custody, and the public; controlling access and maintaining inventory of keys; operating control rooms and panels; monitoring and accessing security doors, gates, cameras, alarms, and video terminals; performing general facility maintenance.
- Assisting adults in custody with information regarding personal records, accounts, grievances, social visits, and court proceedings; providing information and assistance regarding criminal cases to staff and the public; communicating and working with courts, records, medical staff, programs staff, other departments, and agencies.
- Performing other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
To be considered for this role, you must have at least three years of work experience as a certified, civilian corrections officer. You must also be currently employed or have been employed within the past 12 months as a certified, civilian corrections officer who has passed probation. A high school diploma or equivalent is also required. You must be at least 21 years of age and a United States citizen or able to obtain citizenship to attend academy. A valid driver's license is also required by time of appointment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in public safety, social service, or security settings is preferred. Current certification as a State of Oregon DPSST Corrections Officer is also preferred. Experience in a command structure organization and college-level coursework from an accredited institution are also preferred.

Selection Process:
The selection process for this role will include an initial review of minimum qualifications, a virtual Personal History Questionnaire, a virtual Suitability exam, a scored Panel Interview, a Background Investigation, a Jail Tour at Multnomah County Detention Center, and a psychological evaluation, physical exam, drug screen, and proficiency exam administered by National Testing Network (NTN).
