Job Overview

The MRI Technologist operates under the general oversight of the MRI Manager, site-specific Lead Technologist, or Radiologist. This role is pivotal in ensuring the independent operation of MRI machinery to produce high-quality imaging while delivering exceptional patient care across all age groups. The technologist is tasked with screening all patients and staff entering designated zones to guarantee magnet safety. All personnel are expected to embody and adhere to Prisma Health's core values: Inspire health. Serve with compassion. Be the difference.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute all imaging procedures with proficiency, ensuring high-quality outcomes through proper positioning, selection of suitable coils, and comprehensive knowledge of scanning protocols. Imaging studies must be completed promptly, accurately charged, and delivered to the radiologist for interpretation immediately following the exam. (35%)
  • Verify patient identity using two identifiers. Engage with patients and medical staff regarding the MR safety questionnaire and relevant clinical history. Collect completed questionnaires and pertinent history to ensure safety for patients entering the department. Communicate any sedation requirements to medical staff and inform patients and families of any delays. (30%)
  • Prepare the scanning room for procedures by adhering to approved cleaning protocols. Dispose of sharps properly and maintain an adequate supply of materials and linens in the examination rooms. (10%)
  • Administer contrast materials associated with MRI procedures within the scope of practice as directed by a physician or in accordance with approved Radiology protocols. (5%)
  • Implement emergency procedures as necessary. (5%)
  • Perform department and hospital-related computer functions relevant to the role, ensuring accurate and timely data entry and record-keeping. (5%)
  • Demonstrate competency in executing quality control tasks related to equipment and procedures to meet established standards. (5%)
  • Stay informed of organizational, affiliate, and departmental updates by checking communications regularly during each shift. (5%)
  • Provide clinical guidance to fellow technologists and students. As needed, assist in preparing staff schedules to ensure adequate department coverage and coordinate daily operations. (5%)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduation from an accredited Radiologic Technology program.

Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses

  • ARRT registered in Radiology & MRI; OR ARRT registered in MRI; OR ARMRIT-American Registry of MRI certification.
  • BLS certification.

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Basic computer proficiency.
  • Familiarity with office equipment (fax/copier).
  • Advanced computer skills (database management).
  • Data entry capabilities.
  • Mathematical proficiency.
