Manatt, Phelps & Phillips, LLP is a leading law and consulting firm known for its commitment to quality and client satisfaction. We are seeking a skilled Legal Biller to join our team in Los Angeles, Orange County, or New York.
Job Summary:We are looking for a detail-oriented and organized individual to process a high volume of bills accurately and timely. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of billing procedures and be able to communicate effectively with billing professionals, assistants, and clients.
Key Responsibilities:- Process bills accurately and timely, including complex bills with split party billing and multiple discounts.
- Familiarize yourself with special fee arrangements for clients and provide guidance to billing professionals on implementation.
- Create and maintain accurate and up-to-date client and billing professional-specific billing instructions.
- Review client and matter setup for accuracy and consistency.
- Review and edit pre-bills according to billing professional instructions and client billing guidelines.
- Communicate effectively with billing professionals, assistants, and clients to resolve issues and ensure timely billing.
- Act as a resource for billing professionals and provide suggestions for process improvements.
- Clearly articulate Firm's billing policies, including write-offs and carry forwards, to billing professionals and their assistants.
- Monitor carry forwards and write-offs and alert the Lead Billing Specialist to potential issues.
- Coordinate with Accounts Payable to ensure timely capture of costs, particularly for out-of-cycle invoices.
- Troubleshoot with Collections to resolve billing issues resulting in payment problems.
- Create billing schedules and bill and payment analyses as required.
- Assist with special billing projects as needed.
- Minimum of two years of legal billing experience.
- Self-starter with excellent client service skills.
- Ability to quickly grasp processes and procedures and apply them to everyday tasks.
- Prioritization and organization skills to complete tasks in a timely manner.
- Active listening skills and a systematic approach to problem-solving.
- Adaptability to different work styles and changing circumstances while adhering to Firm policies and billing guidelines.
- Effective communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work well under pressure and stay focused on task completion.
- Good judgment and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of billing systems, such as Aderant or Elite.
- Experience with e-billing.
- Solid basic math skills, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and calculating percentages.
- Excellent spelling and grammar skills.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Word and Excel.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
The base annual pay range for this role is between $60,000-$95,000. The base pay offered will vary based on skills, qualifications, experience, location, and internal equity. A full range of medical, financial, and other benefits will also be offered.
