Job Title: Special Education Teacher

BASIS San Antonio Area schools are seeking a qualified Special Education Teacher to join our team for the 2024-2025 school year.

Job Summary

The Special Education Teacher will work directly with students to identify and fulfill needed educational services and supports as part of a student's Individualized Education Program (IEP). The role involves facilitating ARD meetings, drafting IEPs, and providing support to general education teachers regarding classroom interventions, student accommodations, modifications, and special education requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work with students with disabilities in small group settings or one-on-one settings
  • Interact directly with assigned students to fulfill IEP requirements
  • Fulfill required provisions in student plans, including service minutes, by providing specially designed instruction and facilitating other supports and/or related services
  • Provide instructional interventions and academic support to individual students or small groups
  • Provide case management services for students with disabilities, including coordination of ARD meetings, parent communication, program development, special education service provision, individualized education program implementation, and compliance
  • Coordinate students' postsecondary transition plans, including administering age-appropriate transition assessments; monitoring and assisting with implementation of coordinated set of transition activities and course of study, where appropriate; and ensuring students' IEPs are designed to support appropriate measurable postsecondary goals
  • Ensure compliance with all state and federal special education requirements
  • Facilitate ARD meetings (annuals, initials, REED, transfers)
  • Collaborate and assist general education teachers in implementing IEP requirements for their students to ensure the availability of a FAPE
  • Collect and maintain documentation associated with IEP and ensure confidentiality and integrity of student records and progress information
  • Supervise itinerant related service providers to coordinate service schedule, ADR meetings, and regular communication with providers to ensure a FAPE is being provided
  • Maintain regular, full, predictable attendance
  • Develop a working knowledge and understanding of general education curriculum to adapt the content appropriately to deliver specially designed instruction to eligible students with disabilities
  • May need to perform CPI certified restraint or seclusion as school designee
  • Oversee day-to-day tasks of the ESS Assistant(s) and/or Special Education Specialist
  • Proctor individual or small group testing for state, district, or alternate assessments
  • Record the appropriate PEIMS (Public Education Information Management System) coding
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • State fingerprint background check, valid Texas special education teaching certificate, CPR and First Aid
  • None
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in special education; Master's degree in special education or related subject matter
  • 1+ year(s) special education experience
  • CPI / EC-12 Special Education Teaching Certificate
