**Job Summary**

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Laboratory Specialist to join our team at Ansible Government Solutions. As a Phlebotomy Technician, you will play a critical role in the collection of patient specimens for laboratory testing.

About the Job

  • This is a full-time position with multiple shift schedules available.
  • You must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above shoulders during the work shift.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs from floor to waist and up to 20 lbs.
  • Carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance and push/pull with 30 lbs of force.

Responsibilities

  1. Perform blood collection requiring knowledge of clinical science to understand the multiplicity of tests and specimen requirements.
  2. Obtain patient specimens for laboratory testing including blood cultures and compatibility.
  3. Access and receive samples into VA and DoD laboratory information system.
  4. Centrifuge samples and pour off.
  5. Instruct patients in proper collection of 24 hour urine and other samples collected.
  6. Prepare collection, measure, and record 24 hour urine.
  7. Transport specimens to the laboratory including those requiring special handling.
  8. Call up collection lists for inpatient blood draws and look up order numbers and patient information for outpatient.
  9. Process samples to the automated loader of the.
  10. Prepare, accession, maintain, file, and dispose of anatomic pathology specimens and records.
  11. Answer phones and direct calls to other laboratory personnel.
  12. Establish and maintain effective interpersonal skills and good customer relations with patients, families, and all other medical center personnel.
  13. Provide general clerical and administrative support.
  14. Order, stock, and maintain specialized supplies used in the drawing.

Requirements

  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy certification from an accredited agency.
  • American Heart Association (AHA) CPR/Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • At least 6 months of experience within the last 3 years as a Patient Service Technician/Phlebotomist.
  • Experience with Vista Laboratory Information System (LIS) is preferred.
