Position Summary:

The Bus Driver plays a crucial role in the mission of the Agency by ensuring the safe transportation of children enrolled in the Head Start program. This position involves operating a school bus in compliance with Head Start Performance Standards and the regulations set forth by the Oregon Department of Education. The Bus Driver may occasionally transport family members to scheduled program events and is responsible for communicating program information effectively.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to designated transportation routes to guarantee the safest and most efficient travel for children.
  • Maintain the bus schedule to ensure timely arrivals at all stops.
  • Transport children and, on occasion, family members for regular class days and special events.
  • Ensure the safety and accountability of children during transport, releasing them only to authorized guardians.
  • Deliver program materials to parents as needed during transport.
  • Conduct daily inspections of the bus to ensure proper maintenance and report any issues to the Transportation Supervisor.
  • Keep the interior of the bus clean and organized.
  • Maintain accurate records related to bus maintenance and program requirements.
  • Assist in the classroom as needed under the guidance of teaching staff.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff to share relevant information about enrolled children.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures, addressing any safety concerns immediately.
  • Uphold the agency's code of ethics and workplace behavior standards.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to meet organizational needs.
Qualifications:
  • Must possess a valid Oregon Commercial Driver's License (Type B or C) with necessary endorsements for School Bus and Passenger Transport.
  • Hold a valid Oregon School Bus Driver Certificate issued by the Oregon Department of Education.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups and build positive relationships.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment screening for illegal substances is mandatory.
  • Must pass applicable background checks prior to employment.
Physical Requirements:
  • Able to perform tasks such as operating bus controls, climbing steps, and responding to emergencies.
  • Possess visual and hearing acuity sufficient to meet the physical requirements of a school bus driver.
  • Work primarily conducted on a bus or outdoors in various weather conditions.
