Mechanical Engineer II

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Mechanical Engineer to join our team at The Building People, LLC. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering and construction management, with a proven track record of delivering successful projects.
- The successful candidate will support the engineering and design efforts related to pre-construction, working closely with project managers to deliver high-quality results.
- They will also provide subject matter expertise, particularly in managing and overseeing studies and designs for new construction, renovations, and improvements to real property facilities, including MEP utility systems.
- Additionally, the candidate will provide engineering support and analysis to the Government in their management of awarded study and design contracts, reviewing the A/E contractor's work and providing written reports of the findings.
- They will also assist the Government in conducting site evaluations, field surveys, and site visits to determine constructability and code compliance, developing draft scopes of work and participating in pre-bid conferences.
- The successful candidate will also support the Government's development of technical requirements, scopes of work, cost estimate analysis, and schedules for A/E services, including studies, reports, and drawings review.
- They will conduct design technical reviews from initial concept to 100% design drawings, tracking and maintaining submittal review process.
- The candidate will also independently schedule, lead, and participate in weekly project progress meetings and monthly program progress meetings to evaluate schedule progress, identify departures from the accepted baseline schedule, and evaluate risk to long-term project and program health.
- They will assess schedule risk and recommend mitigation strategies, working independently to track down requirements and data from other engineers, project managers, or clients in a professional manner with complete and on-time submissions.
- The position will maintain construction administration data in Excel, web-based software, and files to be aggregated and used as metrics and briefing tools for senior leadership.
- The successful candidate will regularly prepare and present project status briefings, develop and maintain performance matrices, prepare well-written technical reports, and prepare written and oral reports to Government leadership and program managers.
Required Experience/Skills:
- 10+ years of electrical engineering experience or 15+ years of experience in the design/construction or operations of chillers, cooling towers, controls, pumps, fans, air handling equipment, and heat exchangers WITH experience in working with construction management and projects greater than 250,000 square feet AND a Professional Engineer (PE) License.
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be able to pass and maintain a Public Trust clearance (HSPD-12 fingerprint background check).
Preferred Experience/Skills:
- Pentagon WHS experience is highly sought after.
