Job Summary

The Transmission Department's primary function is to ensure the safe and reliable operation of all transmission pipeline systems, transmission stations, distribution stations, and large customer metering systems.

Job Responsibilities
  • Maintain the Company's pipeline right-of-way for transmission lines and cross-country distribution lines to ensure adequate access is preserved.
  • Inspect road crossings and transmission valves, perform leak surveys, and patrol the cross-country right-of-way to remain in compliance with federal/state laws and regulations.
  • Responsible for maintaining station appearance and the integrity of the pipe by painting, spraying herbicide, and mowing.
  • Locate underground transmission facilities for parties encroaching upon the rights-of-way.
  • Complete required documentation.
  • Repair and maintain equipment used, including trucks, backhoes, bush hogs, dump trucks, trailers, small engines on outdoor equipment, painting equipment, and air compressors.
  • Inspect, operate, and maintain block valves as scheduled.
Requirements
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment, such as bush hog tractors, dump trucks, and backhoes.
  • At least six months' experience operating common hand and power tools, including grinders, painting equipment, pipe locators, chain saws, weed trimmers, air compressors, cutting torches, and various other hand tools.
  • Ability to read maps, drawings, and blueprints.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
  • Effective communication skills for customer and property owner interactions and a willingness to work with others in a diverse team environment.
  • Ability to adhere to safe working and driving procedures.
  • Occasional heavy lifting up to 80 lbs. independently.
  • Must be willing and able to meet a 45-minute emergency response time from the geographical center of the area.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of Construction Operating and Maintenance Procedures and Department of Transportation Codes.
  • Current NC pesticide license.
  • Experience driving with trailers.
  • Bilingual (Spanish) candidates.
Licenses, Certifications, or Qualifications
  • Must have a valid driver's license with a safe driving history.
  • A valid commercial driver's license is highly preferred. The ability to obtain a commercial driver's license within six (6) months of employment is required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a NC pesticide license.
