Job Title: Behavioral Health Technician

At Connecticut Children's Medical Center, we are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Behavioral Health Technician to join our team in the Emergency Department. As a Behavioral Health Technician, you will play a vital role in promoting the safety, health, and comfort of patients, families, and staff in Zone C.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist Registered Nurses in collecting data during the intake/admission process for behavioral/psychiatric patients.
  • Complete an inventory of personal items and wanding of patient/belongings upon arrival, and secure personal items at the completion of the visit.
  • Communicate observations of the environment and patient indicators that a patient is escalating or at increased risk for agitation/aggression or harm to self.
  • Maintain a safe and therapeutic environment while maintaining boundaries for patients, families, and staff.
  • Support visitation guidelines and policies as established by department and hospital.
  • Assist patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) and complete patient documentation as appropriate.
  • Obtain vital signs/weights as delegated by Registered Nurse.
  • Collaborate as a member of the care team to contribute to the safe level of observations and contribute to the development and implementation of an individualized care plan.
Requirements:
  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of one year (1) experience in pediatric emergency department or psychiatric/behavioral health unit.
  • BLS CPR for Healthcare provider, required upon hire and maintained current at all times.
  • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (CPI) certification required within 3 months of hire and maintained current at all times.
