Hospital Security Specialist

The Hospital Security Specialist (HSS) is tasked with ensuring the safety and security of staff and patients within the healthcare facility. The primary responsibility of the HSS is to oversee the reception area of Conway Medical Center (CMC). Key duties include warmly welcoming and assisting hospital visitors, identifying their needs, and directing them appropriately. The HSS will provide precise information to visitors regarding hospital policies, procedures, and operations.
The HSS will manage incoming calls in the lobby, directing them to the correct departments, and will guide sales representatives and other individuals conducting business within the hospital to the appropriate areas. Maintaining patient confidentiality is paramount, and the HSS will adhere to all relevant protocols. Additional responsibilities may encompass conducting floor patrols throughout the hospital and affiliated medical offices. Upon request, the HSS will collect and secure patient valuables in the Security office safe until retrieval.
Furthermore, the HSS will routinely offer escort services to staff and visitors, perform daily locking and unlocking of various buildings on campus, and provide motor vehicle assistance to staff and visitors (e.g., jump-starting vehicles and aiding with flat tires). The HSS will respond to all alarm activations, investigate their causes, and conduct monthly alarm tests. Occasionally, the HSS may provide one-on-one observation of psychiatric patients and assist in patient restraint when necessary (e.g., in the Emergency Department or Psychiatric unit).
The HSS will be responsible for collecting all lost and found items, documenting them accurately, and attempting to locate the owners when possible. A daily activity log will be maintained to record all activities and service calls.
Qualifications:
Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Prior experience in law enforcement or security preferred.
- Must successfully obtain South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) certification as a South Carolina Certified Private Security Officer before the first shift.
- Exceptional customer service skills are essential.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are required.
- Occasional exposure to challenging patients.
- Potential exposure to bloodborne and airborne pathogens.
- Generally pleasant and comfortable physical surroundings.
- Proximity to moving machinery.
- Frequent temperature fluctuations.
- Prolonged periods of standing and walking are necessary.
