Job Title: Research Program Manager

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Research Program Manager to join our team at the Johns Hopkins University School of Public Health. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing the coordination and advancement of two pioneering research groups: the Community Science and Innovation for Environmental Justice (CSI EJ) Initiative and the Johns Hopkins Environmental Health Microbiology and Immunology Laboratory (EHMIL).

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and implement strategic plans to achieve program objectives and align with the missions of CSI EJ and EHMIL.
  • Manage timelines and deliverables, ensuring that team members meet crucial deadlines and objectives with accountability and efficiency.
  • Facilitate the coordination and scheduling of meetings across the CSI EJ and EHMIL teams, enhancing cross-collaboration and integration of research efforts.
  • Develop and oversee program budgets, ensuring effective allocation of resources and financial reporting.
  • Participate in community outreach, nurturing active engagement in research initiatives.
  • Work closely with the principal investigator and research teams domestically and internationally, as well as graduate students in the overall planning for research studies being performed in diverse field settings.
  • Uphold and ensure adherence to institutional policies and industry best practices within all research activities.
  • Draft human subjects research study protocols for submission to the Institutional Review Board (IRB) and management of ongoing study protocols including preparation of annual reports and protocol amendments.
  • Makes strategic recommendations/decisions to meet project goals across multiple, diverse research program collaborations including sample collection, processing optimization, sample nomenclature, data organization, field collection best-practices, sample testing strategies/timing and personnel / staffing requirements to do so.
  • Cultivates an environment of continuous improvement, innovation, and growth within the program, keeping abreast of scientific advancements and community needs.
  • Prioritizes and coordinates multiple tasks across a diverse research program that includes laboratory, field, and community-based collaborators across diverse scientific disciplines.
  • Works well and communicates effectively with faculty, staff, students, and collaborators both internal and external to JHU.
  • Has strong organizational and leadership skills and works well both independently and as part of a team.
  • Has strong attention to detail and an ability to work with a diverse team of researchers and with diverse community-based partner organizations and research participant populations.
  • Possesses working knowledge of PC operations and software applications such as MS Windows, Excel, Word, and Access.
  • Ability to learn new database and software statistical programming applications such as Stata and R.
  • Ability to implement and train others to follow multiple, detailed directions using various protocols and standard operating procedures.
  • Facilitates discussions for, and creates laboratory, logistical, record-keeping processes and new systems specifically tailored to each study collaborator to ensure high level of operation and successful implementation of the data collection procedures.
  • Maintaining multi-partnerships with Familiarizing himself with the Curtis Bay community organizers to assimilate into their objectives for community protections.
  • Participates in scientific discussions with PI and community partners across diverse community science and innovation for environmental justice research projects in North Carolina, DelMarVa and South Baltimore / Curtis Bay to assist in clarifying, delegating and executing research goals.
  • Facilitates communication between research teams, community and organizational partners, and sponsoring agencies.
  • Maintains knowledge of the study protocols and reporting requirements.
  • Generates reports for project deliverables.
  • Participates in planning, analysis, and interpretation of data.
  • Participates in preparing data for analysis, including data cleaning and quality control activities.
  • Synthesizes and edits research findings and technical data.
  • Reviews the statistical output and writes summaries of the output to integrate into the results section of each report/scientific manuscript.
  • Works in coordination with diverse project research teams to ensure accuracy, proper organization and advanced preparation of sponsored projects applications and reports.
  • Identifies personnel who are behind in their projects and helps when personnel are sick or on leave.
  • Supervises research staff and assists graduate students with technical direction and logistical knowledge.
