Job Title: LPN

At South Central Regional Medical Center, we are seeking a skilled and compassionate Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team. As an LPN, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and contributing to the success of our healthcare organization.

Job Summary:

The LPN will be responsible for delivering nursing interventions based on professional judgment in response to individualized patient needs. This includes promoting restorative health and/or supportive care using the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate nursing care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to the scope of LPN practice as outlined by the MS Board of Nursing, regulatory standards, and hospital policy.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge and pursue professional growth opportunities.
  • Participate as an essential part of the nursing team, assist the RN, and support the Nursing Assistant.
  • Serve as a positive role model and in the preceptor role for new staff and students.
  • Keep access to protected health information secure and confidential.
  • Collaborate with the RN, physician, and multidisciplinary team to address patient needs.
  • Appropriately seek help or guidance from supervisor or other resource people.
  • Adapt to change and prioritize work.
  • Demonstrate reliable attendance, report on time, and be ready to work at the beginning of the shift.
  • Complete assigned duties, willingly accept assignments, and assist others to complete work on time.
  • Support the unit's staffing needs by occasionally adjusting the work schedule, staying late, or working extra.
  • Establish a safe, compassionate, caring environment for patients and their family.
  • Establish a safe, supportive work environment that promotes teamwork.
Core Duties:
  • Provide patient care by collecting, monitoring, and reporting information and responding to basic needs.
  • Assist with the admission process by collecting patient and family information.
  • Promote patient engagement by considering specific needs, values, and preferences.
  • Assist with discharge teaching about diagnosis, medications, and self-care skills to prevent hospital readmissions.
  • Accurately and completely document patient information and nursing care in the patient's medical record.
  • Promote continuity of care by reporting activities, incidents, and changing patient needs to the next caregiver.
  • Demonstrate infection prevention behaviors, consistent hand washing, and use of appropriate PPEs.
  • Adhere to safe medication administration while preparing, administering, documenting, and monitoring meds.
  • Recognize safety risks and implement prevention plans for falls, skin breakdown, and injury.
  • Contribute to the department's performance improvement activities.
  • Demonstrate competency in the performance of LPN clinical skills.
Essential Skill Competencies:
  • Phlebotomy
  • Establish IV access (LPN II only)
  • CPR Certification
  • Medication monitoring
  • Preventive skin care
  • Foley catheter insertion/care
  • Aseptic wound care/dressing change
Minimum Requirements:
  • Current LPN license by the Mississippi Board of Nursing.
  • Ability to read, write, understand written and verbal communication.
Interaction Skills:
  • Effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to provide instructions and education.
