Afterschool Educator

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Afterschool Teacher/Tutor to join our team at the Yarrow Family YMCA in Westlake Village, CA.

• Plan and implement engaging program activities that promote learning and development in children.
• Nurture children through purposeful programming, building achievement and belonging in youth and relationships among youth and within families.
• Supervise children, classrooms, or sites, and all activities, including ADA accommodations where necessary.
• Makes ongoing, systematic observations and evaluations of each child.
• Cultivate positive relationships and maintain effective communication with parents, engaging them as volunteers and connecting them to the YMCA.
• Use positive reinforcement techniques to address children's behavioral concerns.
• Attend scheduled staff meetings, trainings, and complete all assigned online trainings.
• Participate in family nights and program activities.

• Meet educational and experience qualifications established by state law, including completion of at least six postsecondary semester units of specified early childhood education classes or a valid Child Development Assistant permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.
• Be at least 18 years of age.
• Knowledge of acceptable child care and day camp practices.
• Demonstrate initiative to plan, lead, and participate in activities.
• Complete all required online trainings before starting work, which will be compensated accordingly.
• Familiarity with mandated reporting and steps that need to be taken.
• Certifications, including CPR & First Aid through American Red Cross or American Heart Association, Preventative Health through an EMSA recognized organization, and up-to-date TDAP, MMR, and Influenza vaccinations.
• Health Screening and TB clearance, and criminal records clearance, completed during the hiring process.
• Ability to plan, lead, and participate in a range of activities in various settings, including standing and sitting for extended periods, wading in water, walking continuously, and spending a full workday outdoors in any weather condition.
• Ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
