General Overview

This job posting is intended for the recruitment of both Cadet (non-certified) and Deputy Sheriff (certified) roles. Your placement in the appropriate classification and salary will be determined based on your qualifications and responses in the application process.

STARTING SALARY: Cadet I: $19.40/hour ($40,360 annual)
Cadet II: $21.82/hour ($45,384 annual)
Recruit: $23.00/hour ($47,830 annual)
Deputy Sheriff: $ /hour ($50,494-60,611 annual)

CADET I/II:
Under general supervision, the Cadet position is designed to prepare non-certified applicants for a career in law enforcement. Cadets will engage in formal and in-house training, specifically tailored to develop skills and knowledge in the law enforcement field.

The selected candidate will perform tasks as assigned by the Administration Officer in Charge or their designee.

The primary goal of the Cadet I or Cadet II role is to advance to the Recruit level, which entails attending the Law Enforcement Academy when eligible. Full-time employment will be maintained during academy attendance, with the Escambia County Sheriff's Office providing necessary training and resources, contingent upon signing a two-year contract post-certification.

DEPUTY SHERIFF:
This position involves crime prevention and investigative duties. Successful completion of a Florida Basic Law Enforcement Academy and passing the Florida State Officer Certification Exam is required.

Key Responsibilities

CADET I/II:
  • Enforce parking regulations and issue citations as necessary.
  • Assist in evidence collection and processing for the Investigations Division.
  • Provide clerical support within the Sheriff's Office.
  • Support the Sheriff's Office Training Unit as needed.
  • Participate in regular law enforcement training sessions.
  • Represent the Escambia County Sheriff's Office at various functions.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned.
If selected for the Law Enforcement Academy:
  • Attend classes, lectures, and practical exercises.
  • Engage in on-the-job training within the designated functional area.
  • Perform related duties in a classroom setting.
DEPUTY SHERIFF:
  • Respond to service calls and citizen complaints.
  • Patrol assigned areas to enforce laws and regulations.
  • Investigate crimes, including evidence collection and witness interviews.
  • Prepare detailed reports and maintain accurate records.
  • Provide emergency assistance at incidents.
  • Serve legal documents and apprehend suspects as necessary.
  • Transport individuals to appropriate facilities.
  • Testify in court and participate in legal proceedings.
  • May be assigned to specialized units requiring specific duties.
  • Perform other related tasks as required.
Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:
  • Must be at least 18 years old at the time of application.
  • High school diploma or equivalent G.E.D. is required.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Valid driver's license required at the time of application.
  • No illegal drug use within the past twelve months.
  • Must pass a background check, drug screening, medical evaluation, and psychological assessment.
For Cadet II qualification:
  • Must meet at least one of the following: Associate's degree or higher, military veteran with honorable discharge, certified corrections officer with two years of experience, or out-of-state law enforcement officer with two years of experience.
For Deputy Sheriff qualification:
Completion of a Florida basic training program for Law Enforcement and passing the Florida state officer certification examination is required.

Physical Requirements:
Positions may require climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, and other physical activities.
