Job Title: Adult Protective Service Specialist

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Adult Protective Service Specialist to join our team at the Oregon Department of Human Services. As an Adult Protective Service Specialist, you will be responsible for providing protective services to older adults and adults with physical disabilities who are unable to protect themselves from abuse and self-neglect.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct investigations to assess compliance with standards, policies, regulations, or laws.
  • Provide protective services to older adults and adults with physical disabilities.
  • Develop and manage intervention plans to arrange for needed services, alternative living arrangements, or personal care.
  • Monitor the risk of individuals who are alleged victims of abuse, neglect, or self-neglect.
  • Write comprehensive investigative reports and provide testimony in court as needed.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in human, social, behavioral, or criminal sciences and two years of human service, law enforcement, or investigative experience.
  • Associate degree in human, social, behavioral, or criminal sciences and four years of human service, law enforcement, or investigative experience.
  • Three years of professional-level experience related to the position may substitute for the bachelor's degree; 18 months for an associate degree.

Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to work 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Monday - Friday with minimal time required to be worked during off-hours. May be subjected to verbal abuse and assaultive threats made by angry and hostile individuals. Must be able to drive to and meet individuals in their own homes, other community settings, nursing homes, hospitals, or other care settings.
