HICAP Education Specialist

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented HICAP Education & Outreach Coordinator to join our team at the Council on Aging - Southern California. The successful candidate will be responsible for educating Medicare beneficiaries, caregivers, and professionals about Medicare benefits and rights, as well as assisting with issues or problems related to Medicare coverage.
Key Responsibilities- Successfully complete HICAP Counselor training and maintain certification
- Provide client case management, telephone counseling, and SHARP documentation as assigned
- Develop and maintain partnerships with organizations serving Inland Empire Seniors and persons with disabilities
- Develop new strategies to reach Medicare beneficiaries and promote HICAP services
- Collaborate with HICAP Volunteers and community partner organization leaders to achieve shared goals
- Conduct community outreach related to Medicare and Low Income Assistance Programs
- Submit all required documentation to the HICAP Education & Outreach Coordinator in a timely manner
- Associate Degree in Human Services, Social Science, Gerontology, Management, or a related field; relevant experience will be considered in lieu of degree
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proactive, self-starter capable of working with minimal supervision
- Ability to lead individual and team projects, and provide expert public speaking
- Ability to speak Spanish a plus
- Successful completion of HICAP Volunteer Counselor training
- Willingness to learn about Medicare, Medicare HMOs, Medigap, and other related insurance issues
- Ability to maintain objectivity and patience in documentation, discussing, and reporting cases
- Well-organized with the ability to multi-task and proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Publisher, and Internet Search Engines
- Ability to work effectively with people in a variety of situations
- Valid California driver's license, proof of insurance, and reliable transportation
- Proof of eligibility to work in the United States
- Submit to and successfully complete a Live Scan fingerprinting background check
