Protein Sales Specialist

This role is responsible for achieving sales profitability, growth, and account penetration within an assigned territory by effectively selling Sysco's products and services. The successful candidate will establish and maintain business relationships with current and prospective customers, promote and sell products, and assist customers in selecting the best products for their needs.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and maintain business relationships with customers to generate new business for Sysco's products and services.
- Make in-person visits and presentations to existing and prospective customers to promote and sell products.
- Take customer orders with Sysco's goals in mind, focusing on sales and gross profit maximization.
- Participate in the review and oversight of customer orders, working with inside sales partners to ensure accurate and timely fulfillment.
- Respond promptly to customer problems and needs, providing solutions and support as required.
- Monitor and address daily out-of-stock, shortages, and transportation issues to ensure seamless customer service.
- Review and analyze daily and weekly sales and margin reports to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Stay up-to-date on product applications, technical services, market conditions, competitive activities, and industry trends.
- Participate in Sysco's training and customer events, as well as sales meetings with Sysco's sales leaders.
- Develop relationships with accounts payable contacts at every account, coordinating communication between them and Sysco's account receivable manager/representative.
- Implement effective credit management practices to control days sales outstanding (DSOs) and minimize costly credits and returns.
- High school diploma required; 4-year degree in culinary arts, business, marketing, agriculture/animal science, or related studies preferred.
- 2-year prior food service and/or sales background strongly preferred.
- Deep expertise in the meat and seafood category or restaurant/culinary background with a demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply new knowledge.
- Consultative sales ability and strong customer relations skills.
- Self-motivation and accountability for time management without constant supervisor direction.
- Basic computer skills and proficiency with MS Outlook.
The successful candidate will have the authority to make decisions independently in the following areas:
- Approach to building relationships with customers/stakeholders.
- Time and customer management.
- Customer pricing.
- Self-motivation.
Decisions in the following areas will require review and approval from other individuals or supervisors:
- Sales strategy.
- Contract pricing and customer pricing.
- Authorizing credits and returns.
The successful candidate will report to a Sales VP, Director, or Manager.
