This position performs basic emergency medical techniques in the care and treatment of patients under the supervision of a professional licensed staff member.

Responsibilities include obtaining and recording patient temperatures, pulse rates, blood pressure, weight, and height measurements, reviewing medications, allergies, past medical history, and placing patients on pulse oximetry and cardiac monitors as per department protocols or as directed.

Reports and records all observed or verbalized patient concerns and changes in condition to a member of the nursing or physician staff.

Performs specialty skills and delegated procedures under the direct supervision of a licensed staff member.

Accompanies providers examining patients in examination rooms as needed and/or assists physicians/licensed staff with procedures.

May perform phlebotomy in accordance with department procedures and physician orders after specialized training.

May clean and stock areas as needed.

May perform POC testing in accordance with ambulatory clinic and physician orders after specialized training.

May work with manager/designee to reconcile unit charges.

May assist in orienting new employees regarding the clerical functions of the unit.

May admit, discharge, and transfer per unit standard.

Demonstrated knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served on his or her assigned unit.

Demonstrated knowledge of the principles of life span growth and development and the ability to assess data regarding the patient's status and provide care as described in the department's policies and procedures manual.

Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system.

One year of health-related experience.

This position involves intensive work that may exert up to 100 pounds and may consistently require lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, or otherwise moving objects, such as medical equipment, or patients while providing medical care.
