Job Summary

The Surgical Nurse will perform plan of care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, and clinical treatments. This role requires critical thinking skills, decisive judgment, and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a stressful environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform plan of care interventions, including medication administration, specimen collection, and clinical treatments
  • Document patient care given
  • Monitor, record, and communicate patient condition as appropriate to the care team, physician, patient, and family
  • Collaborate with the care team to coordinate patient care, including patient transfer, discharge, referral, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs
  • Evaluate learning needs of patient and/or family and provide patient/family education appropriate to age, culture, condition, and circumstances
  • Assess and care for the surgical patient throughout the intraoperative process
  • Assist with preoperative preparation and postoperative care
  • Operate specialized equipment for procedures
  • Maintain a safe surgical environment
Requirements
  • Associate's Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN)
  • Active Kentucky RN license or Compact Licensure
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days
