Surgical Technologist

As a Surgical Technologist at UPMC - University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of our operating rooms. Your primary responsibility will be to assist the surgical team in preparing patients for surgery, maintaining a sterile environment, and providing essential support during procedures.

• Pre-Operative Preparation: Assist in preparing the operating room by setting up surgical instruments and equipment, sterile drapes, and sterile solutions.
• Instrument Management: Efficiently pass instruments and other sterile supplies to surgeons and surgeon assistants during surgery.
• Specimen Handling: Assist in the preparation, care for, and disposal of specimens taken for laboratory analysis.
• Patient Care: Provide personal hygiene for patients, collect specimens, and perform bedside glucose testing.
• Clerical Duties: Communicate patient information to the healthcare team, maintain accurate patient records, and organize the work area.
• Environmental Maintenance: Maintain and clean patient equipment, clean patient rooms according to guidelines, and stock patient care areas with supplies.
• Customer Service: Demonstrate customer awareness, treat individuals with respect, and consistently perform duties courteously.

• CPR certification based on AHA standards
• Certification as a Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or Technologist Surgery Certified (TSC) within 6 months of program completion
• Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
• Act 33 with renewal
• Act 34 with renewal
• Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
