Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Communications Systems Technician to join our team at the Chicago Transit Authority. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of our electronic communication systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • System Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and repairs on electronic communication equipment, including testing, adjusting, and replacing components as needed.
  • System Installation: Install and configure new electronic communication equipment, including wiring and soldering custom components.
  • System Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve issues with electronic communication systems, including detecting and adjusting flaws in broadcast transmissions.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of all repairs and modifications performed on electronic communication equipment.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all electronic communication systems are in compliance with F.C.C. regulations.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Must have formal training or working knowledge of analog, digital, and IP-based communications systems, including telephone systems, public address systems, digital signage systems, camera systems, and uninterruptible power systems.
  • Technical Skills: Must have advanced knowledge of the operation of electronic communication equipment and the ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematic drawings.
  • Physical Demands: Must be physically fit and able to lift, carry, and maneuver materials weighing up to 75 pounds, as well as work in confined spaces and climb ladders, stairs, and poles.
Working Conditions
  • Work Environment: Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment with exposure to dirt, loud noise, and various light and weather conditions.
  • Equipment and Tools: Must be able to operate a bucket truck and related equipment, as well as work from a ladder, bucket truck, or other lift type equipment.
