The Automotive Service Supervisor plays a pivotal role in ensuring efficient workflow and task allocation among the automotive technicians. This position collaborates closely with the Service Manager to uphold the quality of service provided to customers and to enhance overall shop productivity.
Key Responsibilities:
- Coordinate with the service department to assign tasks to technicians.
- Oversee individual technician workloads and the overall workflow within the service area.
- Guide technicians in meeting internal training requirements and prepare them for certification processes.
- Mentor and train new technicians to ensure they meet shop standards.
- Assist technicians in diagnosing and resolving vehicle issues as needed.
- Conduct performance evaluations to track technician progress and career goals.
- Facilitate team-building activities for the technician group.
- Educate the technician team on maintaining brand and quality standards for effective customer service.
- Manage shop supplies and equipment to ensure operational efficiency.
- Monitor fluid levels and shop efficiency through technician hours and audit processes.
- Distribute housekeeping responsibilities among technicians to promote safety and organization.
- Supervise technician schedules and enforce safety protocols.
- Communicate effectively with the service department regarding customer concerns and assist in resolving complaints.
Qualifications:
- Positive demeanor with a strong commitment to customer service.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience as an automotive technician.
- Exceptional automotive diagnostic abilities.
- Significant investment in personal tools.
- Ability to meet or exceed a 30-hour work week based on shop requirements.
- ASE A1-A8 Certifications are mandatory; Master L1 certification is preferred.
- Proficient in diagnosing and repairing a variety of vehicle makes and models.
- Aptitude for achieving hourly performance goals.
- Willingness to learn new skills and processes.
- Professional appearance and effective communication skills.
- Desire for long-term career advancement.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift and/or move items weighing over 50 pounds.
- Capable of working with tools on elevated vehicles.
- Comfortable working in confined spaces as required by vehicle repairs.
- Dexterity to effectively use hand tools.
- Ability to stand or walk for the majority of the workday.
- Experience driving manual transmission vehicles.
- Proficient in navigating computer systems.
