Job Summary

Amergis is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to provide high-quality services to students with diverse learning needs. As a member of our team, you will play a vital role in creating a supportive and inclusive learning environment that fosters academic, social, and emotional growth.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs): Collaborate with parents, department team members, and other professionals to design and implement tailored education plans that meet the unique needs of each student.
  • Support Learning for Students with Diverse Abilities: Provide instruction, tutorial assistance, and consultation to students with a wide range of learning, mental, emotional, and physical disabilities.
  • Design and Deliver Instruction: Create engaging and effective lesson plans that parallel the general education curriculum, catering to the diverse needs of students.
  • Communicate with Parents and Colleagues: Maintain open and regular communication with parents, administrators, testing specialists, social workers, and other professionals to ensure seamless collaboration and support.
  • Monitor Student Progress: Regularly assess student progress, participate in review and revision of IEPs, and maintain accurate student records.
  • Mentor and Support Teaching Assistants: Provide guidance and support to teaching assistants who work with students with disabilities.
  • Prepare Students for Grade Transitions and Life Skills: Assist students in preparing for grade transitions and developing essential life skills.
  • Assess Student Skills and Needs: Evaluate students' skills and educational needs, tracking their performance and progress.
  • Discuss Student Progress with Colleagues: Share student progress with other teachers and professionals to ensure a comprehensive understanding of each student's needs.
  • Communicate Effectively: Maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues through effective communication.
  • Follow School District Policies and Procedures: Adhere to all relevant professional standards of practice, School District policies, and procedures.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited university preferred.
  • Certification: Valid state teaching certificate as required by state, contract/district regulations.
  • Experience: Minimum of one year experience in a teaching environment preferred.
  • Certifications: State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Elementary Teaching preferred, State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Secondary Teaching preferred, State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Special Teaching preferred, Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferred.
  • Professional Standards: Comply with all relevant professional standards of practice.
  • Training and Certifications: Participation and completion of Amergis' Competency program when applicable, Current CPR if applicable, TB Questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable, Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation), Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements, Successful completion of new hire training as applicable to job site, Understand patient confidentiality and HIPAA requirements.
  • Communication and Computer Skills: Ability to effectively elicit/provide information to and from appropriate individuals (including, but not limited to, supervisors, co-workers, clients) via strong communication skills; proficiency in the English language required, Computer proficiency required.
  • Age Requirement: Must be at least 18 years of age.
