Position Overview: This role involves providing support in the pre-breeding, insemination, gestational management, and relocation of gilts and sows.

Work Schedule: Approximately 45 hours weekly; 9 hours daily; 5 days a week with rotating weekends.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate the physical condition and health status of sows and gilts;
  • Maintain detailed records of all activities related to sows and gilts on individual sow cards;
  • Administer necessary treatments to sows and gilts;
  • Perform insemination procedures on sows and gilts;
  • Identify estrus cycles in sows and gilts;
  • Input data utilizing a PDA or computer;
  • Facilitate the movement of sows and gilts;
  • Adhere to all bio-security, safety, and animal welfare regulations.
Physical Demands:
  • Ability to reach, bend, kneel, and squat with full mobility and agility on a frequent basis.
  • Engage in continuous walking between crates to monitor sows and gilts for a minimum of 8 hours daily.
  • Exhibit quick reflexes and the capability to safely distance oneself from any challenging sow or gilt.
  • Regularly bend over crates to assist with estrus detection and insemination tasks.
  • Frequent kneeling, bending, reaching, and maintaining balance is essential for effective insemination and estrus detection.
  • Capability to lift up to 50 pounds consistently, with frequent lifting or carrying of items weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to push and pull weights up to 30 pounds.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for 8 hours each day, with one 45-minute break.
  • Ability to write legibly on sow cards for production documentation.
