Our unique advancements are designed to replace conventional methods with superior light-driven alternatives, ensuring enhanced quality, reduced costs, and improved functionality. With a focus on silicon carbide applications, we are excited to expand our talented team.

Your Role

We are looking for a Lead Electrical Engineering Specialist to spearhead and develop the electrical engineering division responsible for the design, construction, testing, and certification of high-voltage electrical panels and systems that govern the operation of Halo's proprietary laser-based material processing equipment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with leaders from Mechanical, Systems, and Software Engineering teams to establish the necessary functionality and performance criteria for new electrical designs.
  • Once the systems architecture is established, you will be accountable for formulating and overseeing the product development plan, delegating circuit and systems design tasks to team members.
  • Typical design tasks include analog and mixed-signal circuit design for laser control applications, utilizing both discrete and integrated circuits, as well as FPGA design for digital control applications. Familiarity with tools such as Cadence Orcad, Allegro, Altium, GC Prevue, and Autocad Electrical is advantageous.
  • System builds will also encompass power distribution architecture and layout, adhering to relevant safety standards, including NFPA, SEMI, UL, and IEC.
  • Evaluate proprietary manufacturing platforms, including associated I/O requirements, and identify opportunities to enhance the efficiency and performance of volume production manufacturing equipment.
  • Research and select automation, input/output, and sensing solutions to achieve optimal systems-level performance.
  • Assess industrial automation and motion control options for Halo's manufacturing line, defining control systems functionality and form factor requirements based on selected equipment.
  • Organize the team to construct, test, debug, and certify prototypes of new control panels and systems, including the installation, configuration, and testing of electrical control systems that support Halo's next-generation manufacturing platforms, integrating advanced automation and motion control capabilities.
  • Define, design, and evaluate safety systems for complex laser-based material processing platforms and integrated manufacturing lines.
  • Lead the safety and quality certification processes associated with the release of material processing systems to volume production.
  • Engage in other related engineering activities as necessary, with contributions to design being a plus.

Qualifications

Preferred Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Systems, Electrical, or Computer Engineering, or a relevant engineering field, with advanced degrees preferred.
  • 8-10 years of relevant industrial systems design and product delivery experience, with a background in semiconductor fabrication, testing, and/or laser-based capital equipment being desirable.
  • 2-4 years of experience managing a small engineering team.
  • Completion of two design cycles supporting the development of complex mixed-signal control systems, with experience in certifying at least one of these systems.

What We Value

  • Hands-on expertise in designing analog, digital, and mixed-signal devices, boards, and systems.
  • Knowledge of hardware and software solutions that drive the evolution of manufacturing equipment automation.
  • Understanding of systems/automation design cycles, including navigating the required safety and certification processes.
  • Previous collaboration with Mechanical, Optical, and Laser development engineers is highly valued.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and safety codes related to the design, construction, and automation of electro-mechanical and optomechanical systems, particularly in laser-based systems.
  • Exceptional detail-oriented analytical, creative, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically to diagnose issues and optimize complex processes, identifying new engineering needs as they arise.
