Job Overview

POSITION TITLE: Maintenance Mechanic

DEPARTMENT: Maintenance

POSITION SUMMARY: This role is essential for ensuring that all machinery operates efficiently and safely within the facility. The position is categorized into three levels: Maintenance 1, 2, & 3.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Prioritize Tasks: Assess job assignments based on urgency and consult with management regarding the order of operations.
  2. Equipment Monitoring: Regularly inspect chillers, water towers, and air compressors to ensure optimal performance.
  3. Machine Oversight: Ensure all production machines are operational; if issues arise, coordinate additional support to resolve them.
  4. Floor Assistance: Provide support on the production floor with blow molders, downstream conveyors, case sealers, boxes, and inserts.
  5. Work Area Maintenance: Keep the shop area clean and organized.
  6. Repair and Maintenance: Overhaul parts, address service challenges, and ensure the plant and equipment remain in functional condition.
  7. Technical Work: Execute mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic tasks according to skill level. (Maintenance 2 & 3): Conduct changeovers.
  8. Advanced Tasks: (Maintenance 3): Engage in fabrication, welding, or electrical work as required.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Support colleagues as necessary, inspect fire suppression systems, manage fans (intake and exhaust), and assist with general housekeeping and other assigned tasks.

POTENTIAL ADDITIONAL ROLES: May perform the responsibilities of a Machine Operator. During equipment startup or troubleshooting, this position may take on tasks associated with other roles within the facility.

DECISION-MAKING: Evaluate the most effective course of action (repair or replace) to restore equipment functionality safely.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must possess physical strength to lift heavy components, including motors and gearboxes, weighing up to 75 lbs. The role requires standing, walking, bending, reaching overhead, and occasional climbing.

RESULTS RESPONSIBILITY: Minimize breakdowns and repairs through proactive maintenance and a comprehensive understanding of plant equipment.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: A high school diploma is required, along with a minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing. Candidates should demonstrate strong mechanical skills, a broad understanding of machine operations, troubleshooting capabilities, and the ability to interpret schematic drawings and service manuals.
