Position Overview:

Edgewater Federal Solutions, Inc. is in search of a dedicated Systems Engineer to support our federal government clientele. The Systems Engineer will deliver Tier III assistance for the deployment, troubleshooting, and upkeep of both classified and unclassified Information Technology (IT) systems. This role involves configuring and managing various operating systems, installing and loading software, resolving issues, maintaining system integrity, and configuring network components to enhance reliability and performance. The Systems team is responsible for developing and executing flexible technology strategies that drive successful business outcomes. A comprehensive range of experience is essential, including technology strategy formulation, network consolidation, virtualization, modernization, SAN management, data center operations, and database oversight. This position necessitates a current DOE Q or DOD/DOJ TS clearance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provision, install, configure, operate, and maintain multiple server environments.
  • Plan, implement, and uphold systems configuration in line with configuration management protocols.
  • Execute installations of operating systems and associated software.
  • Support end-user applications and assist application support teams in implementation and troubleshooting efforts.
  • Conduct routine software and hardware maintenance, including firmware upgrades, patches, and fixes.
  • Perform daily backup operations to ensure data integrity.
  • Prepare technical specifications documentation for system processes.
  • Contribute to cybersecurity initiatives through vulnerability management and remediation, STIG (Security Technical Implementation Guide) application, and incident response.
  • Advise on technical standards and policies.
  • Collaborate with vendors to troubleshoot, maintain, and implement hardware and software solutions.
  • Analyze and enhance system performance and reliability.
  • Conduct systems inventory and update asset management records.
  • Document and revise systems architecture diagrams and server rack layouts using Microsoft Visio.
  • Provide technical assistance, training, and system documentation to users to facilitate efficient application operation.
  • Perform risk assessments, account audits, access rights evaluations, and activity audits.
  • Develop disaster recovery strategies, including the implementation of warm site solutions and testing of critical application failover.
  • Work collaboratively with server, SAN, and application teams to identify operational characteristics, diagnose issues, propose viable solutions, and implement the most suitable solutions in a timely manner according to Change Control Process.
  • Develop and maintain installation and configuration procedures; contribute to and uphold system standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Ensure system performance through monitoring and analysis, performance tuning, troubleshooting, hardware installation, firmware patching, and VMware software updates.
  • Document and share knowledge with colleagues through training sessions.
  • Communicate insights, status updates, and progress to management through clear written and verbal reports.

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship is required as per contract stipulations.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in an IT Operations environment.
  • 5+ years of experience in directing system-level design and configuration of products, including determining hardware, OS, and other platform specifications.
  • 3+ years of experience with VMware ESXi/vSphere/vCenter; VDI Instant Clone management experience is preferred.
  • 2+ years of experience supporting classified systems.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with VDI Linked/Instant Clone management is preferred.
  • Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA), Engineer (RHCE), Architect (RHCA).
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) or higher.
  • VMware Certified Professional – 5.0 or higher, specializing in Datacenter Virtualization and Desktop.
  • Citrix Certified Expert – Virtualization and Networking.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure Stack.
  • Experience with Nutanix technologies.
  • ITIL v3 or v4 certification.
  • Certifications in MS Azure, VMware, Cisco, and RHEL are advantageous.
