Job Summary: We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Laboratory & Research Specialist I to join our team at the Department of Biochemistry at Virginia Tech. The successful candidate will have a strong background in molecular biology, microbiology, and laboratory animal research.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct research in molecular biology and microbiology, including cloning, bacterial transformation, and standard molecular techniques.
- Assist in laboratory animal research, including colony maintenance, infection studies, and tissue processing and analysis.
- Develop and implement new laboratory protocols and procedures.
- Collaborate with research team members to achieve project goals.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of research activities and results.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, or related field.
- Experience in laboratory animal research, molecular biology, and microbiology.
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated research experience.
- Knowledge of maintaining a safe and clean laboratory environment.
- Experience with experimental animal models.
