Perioperative Technician-Anesthesiology Specialist

Nationwide Children's Hospital is seeking a highly skilled Perioperative Technician-Anesthesiology Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our perioperative department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth operation of our surgical suites.
Key Responsibilities- Assist anesthesia providers with inventory and equipment needs, ensuring timely and accurate preparation for procedures.
- Maintain surgical inventory in general storage areas and workrooms, adhering to departmental policies and procedures.
- Transport patients to the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), setting up tanks and O2 tubing as needed.
- Assist in the setup and turnover of operating suites, including inventory and equipment management.
- Perform arterial blood gas analysis upon request of anesthesia providers.
- Check and replace Baralyme as per departmental guidelines.
- Communicate regularly with OR/anesthesia staff to determine supply and equipment needs for procedures.
- Assist the Periops Materials Manager with supply chain needs, including ordering and putting away supplies.
- Maintain a clean, safe, patient care, and workspace environment.
- Obtain patient care equipment and supplies from other departments as needed or requested.
- Train new Periop Techs on daily tasks, including IV preparation, equipment setup, and calibration.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on anesthesia equipment and gas machines.
- Assist clinical staff with lifting and positioning patients as needed.
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Basic understanding of mechanical equipment.
- Self-starter who requires little or no supervision.
- Personally committed to patient safety and NCH Core Values.
- Ability to set priorities and respond appropriately to actual and/or potential life-threatening situations.
- Demonstrates promptness and consistency in meeting scheduled work commitments.
- Ability to initiate and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Establishes and maintains good working relationships with other members of the healthcare team.
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure in a stressful environment.
- Ability to communicate well with patients.
- Must be able to move or reposition patients of any weight or size with the assistance of another person(s) and/or equipment.
- Intermediate computer knowledge (i.e., Outlook and Word).
- Previous healthcare experience desirable.
- Knowledge of supply chain/materials management terminology desirable.
- Perform basic math calculations.
The ability to stand, walk, push, pull, kneel, reach overhead, and rotate trunk for prolonged periods (8+ hours) and independently lifting 25 lbs.
The ability to see, hear, stand, walk, speak English, and read English.
