Position Overview: The Nursing Operations Manager is accountable for the management of Inpatient Nursing, Emergency Services, and Patient Care Coordination. This role requires a proactive approach to support various departments as necessary. Responsibilities within Inpatient Nursing and Emergency Services encompass the strategic planning, collaboration, and execution of safe and effective patient care, including discharge planning in partnership with interdisciplinary healthcare professionals to ensure superior patient outcomes through the establishment of clinical protocols and pathways. Monitoring patient results and addressing any discrepancies is a key aspect of this role. The manager will also oversee the collaboration, development, and execution of effective patient discharge strategies, working closely with all relevant members of the healthcare team to ensure seamless coordination of care through the utilization of clinical protocols and pathways. It is essential to achieve specific patient outcomes and to evaluate and address any variances from established standards. The role involves ensuring that appropriate care levels and admission/discharge criteria are met by utilizing interqual monitoring criteria to assess the severity of illness and service intensity needs.

- Assists the CAO in identifying educational needs and planning relevant programs to meet these needs and regulatory standards.
- Participates in initiatives aimed at enhancing customer experience and improving workflow and work environment.
- Facilitates new employee orientation and ensures nursing staff competencies are completed.
- Coordinates the delivery of annual mandatory and ongoing education for staff, utilizing both internal and external resources in accordance with state and federal regulations and company policies.
- Maintains comprehensive employee education and training records.
- Collaborates with the Quality Improvement Officer on quality enhancement initiatives.
- Exhibits the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively complete assigned tasks and fulfill all educational requirements.
- Delivers safe, accurate, and timely patient care in alignment with Alleghany Health standards and departmental objectives.
- Facilitates effective communication within the department.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members to ensure exceptional patient care and effective discharge processes.
- Manages the flow of non-departmental staff and visitors.
- Maintains information and computer files as directed by leadership.
- Assists in the collection of quality improvement data.
- Updates physician preference cards as needed through the scheduling system.
- Generates and prepares reports for unit leaders or administration as required.
- Monitors specific patient outcomes across all areas, ensuring excellent care is achieved and addressing any issues as necessary.
- Engages in Performance Improvement initiatives, including those aimed at reducing readmissions and monitoring meaningful use indicators.
- Provides coverage in both the Emergency Room and Inpatient areas during staffing shortages or call-ins.
- Responsible for creating the staff schedule for both Inpatient and Emergency Room departments.
- Strives to meet every customer's needs diligently.
- Maintains full engagement and availability to assist others while on duty.
- Participates in all Performance Improvement initiatives.
- Holds accountability for actions taken, adhering to the Nurse Practice Act and departmental guidelines.
- Ensures clear communication between patients, their families, nursing staff, and physicians.
- Completes tasks efficiently, minimizing time, materials, and costs while prioritizing service.
- Works productively during scheduled hours and offers assistance to colleagues when tasks are completed.
- Communicates surgical data to administration and relevant parties as needed.
- Maintains awareness of average case times and updates as per policy or upon request.
- Possesses a strong understanding of Revenue Cycle Processes and both CMS and commercial insurance concepts.
- Demonstrates a positive and productive response to change.
- Engages in continuous improvement, proposing and implementing methods to enhance care and service.
- Assists in analyzing data related to surgical trends.
- Education/Experience: Graduate from an accredited nursing program; a Bachelor's degree is preferred or current enrollment in a relevant program. A minimum of three years of management experience in nursing or at least two years of supervisory experience is preferred. Knowledge of the North Carolina Nurse Practice Act is essential.
- Licensure/Certification: Current North Carolina Registered Nurse Licensure is required. BLS certification must be obtained within three months of hire. ACLS and PALS certifications are required within six months of hire.
