Job Summary

The Anchorage School District seeks an exceptional Custodial Professional to maintain the cleanliness and overall appearance of our schools. This role is a key contributor to ensuring a safe and healthy environment for students, teachers, and staff. As an Unassigned Custodian, you will be responsible for maintaining clean floors, furniture, fixtures, and grounds across multiple locations, requiring strong organizational and time management skills.

Job Requirements

To excel in this role, you must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, with two years of related work experience considered in lieu of education. Additionally, you should have some experience in custodial work, be able to read and interpret documents such as Material Safety Data Sheets, and hold a current Alaska driver's license.

Responsibilities
  • Sweeps, vacuums, mops, scrubs, and refinishes floor surfaces.
  • Dusts, washes, and waxes furniture and fixtures.
  • Cleans restroom toilet bowls, sinks, walls, and other areas.
  • Secures the facility before exiting, including turning out lights and locking doors and windows.
  • Monitors the building for safety and reports needed repairs to authorities.
  • Operates electrical custodial equipment safely and effectively.
  • Works with different chemicals, such as detergents, disinfectants, and sanitizers.
  • Performs heavy lifting while moving equipment, chemicals, and furniture.
  • Maintains school grounds by removing trash and clearing building sidewalks.
Physical and Mental Demands

This role requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. You should be able to reach with your hands and arms and occasionally lift items weighing up to 50 pounds. Additionally, you must be able to understand vague and implicit instructions, recall facts and details, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure.

Work Environment

This position is performed in a professional environment with diverse groups of people, including working with students, parents, and other employees. You may be exposed to outdoor weather conditions and moderate noise levels.

Estimated Salary

$45,000 - $55,000 per year, based on location and experience.
