Job Summary:

The Nutrition Dietetics Technician, Registered (NDTR) plays a vital role in resident nutrition intervention, nutrition counseling, and nutrition care planning under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian. As a contributing member of the interdisciplinary team, the NDTR is responsible for establishing and implementing the interdisciplinary care plan, assessing data reflective of the elder's status, and interpreting information relative to the elder's age-specific needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Registered Dietitian in screening new admissions in Long Term Care.
  • Review the accuracy of diet orders and communicate with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Complete required documentation thoroughly, accurately, and promptly, including nutrition assessments and weight changes.
  • Update menus, diet changes, new admissions, resident allergies/special diets, and meal orders as needed.
  • Provide diet counseling to elders, families, friends, and staff regarding dietary restrictions.
  • Report any potential nutritional concerns to the Registered Dietitian and assist in the follow-up of nutrition complaints and concerns.
Requirements:
  • Earn at least an associate's degree and complete an approved NDTR program at an accredited college or university through the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND).
  • Pass the national exam for NDTR's administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR).
  • Complete continuing educational requirements to maintain registration.
