Hospitalist Service roles are standardized across our health system, recognizing that each delivery network may have unique physician responsibilities tailored to meet patient needs, provider complement, educational programs, and specific bylaws.

The primary responsibility of the Physician within the Hospitalist Service is to deliver comprehensive care to hospitalized medicine patients, collaborating effectively with Physician Assistants (PAs), Nurse Practitioners (NPs), and leadership within the Hospitalist Service.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical Practice:
    1. Deliver care to assigned medicine inpatients, ensuring safe, high-quality, patient-centered, and efficient treatment.
  • Education:
    2.1 Assess the educational needs of team members, patients, and families, providing relevant teaching and training to nursing staff, PAs/NPs, medical students, residents, and APP program students.
  • Quality Improvement:
    3.1 Engage in team-based initiatives aimed at enhancing quality and patient satisfaction.
  • Patient Safety:
    4.1 Practice medicine in a manner that prioritizes patient safety.
  • Operations:
    5.1 Adhere to all policies and procedures established by NEMG and the respective hospital entity.

Qualifications

EDUCATION:
Must possess an M.D./D.O. degree, complete residency training, and hold Board eligibility/certification in internal medicine or family practice. Attending medical staff privileges at the respective YNHHS entity are required.

EXPERIENCE:
A minimum of two (2) years of experience caring for medicine inpatients as a resident or attending physician.

LICENSURE:
Must hold a valid Connecticut medical license, Connecticut Controlled Substance Registration, and Federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Certification.

SPECIAL SKILLS:
Demonstrated excellence in clinical, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to work independently.

PHYSICAL DEMAND:
Work hours may vary based on shift assignments as determined by Hospital Leadership.
