The roles within the Hospitalist Service have been standardized across the Yale New Haven Health System, acknowledging that each delivery network may have unique variations in physician responsibilities to meet patient needs, staffing levels, educational programs, and the specific requirements of each network.
The primary role of the Physician within the Hospitalist Service is to deliver comprehensive care to hospitalized medicine patients, collaborating effectively with Physician Assistants (PAs), Nurse Practitioners (NPs), and the leadership team of the Hospitalist Service.

- Clinical Practice:
1.1 Deliver care to assigned medicine inpatients within the Hospitalist Service, ensuring safe, high-quality, patient-centered, and efficient medical care. - Education:
2.1 Assess the information needs of team members, patients, and their families. Regularly provide relevant teaching and educational support to unit nurses, as well as to PAs/NPs, medical students, residents, and students from advanced practice programs. - Quality Improvement/Customer Satisfaction:
3.1 Engage in team-oriented quality improvement initiatives and efforts to enhance patient/customer satisfaction. - Patient Safety:
4.1 Practice medicine in a manner that prioritizes patient safety. - Operations:
5.1 Adhere to all policies and procedures set forth by NEMG and the respective hospital entity.
Qualifications
Education: M.D./D.O. degree, completion of full residency training, and Board eligibility/certification in internal medicine or family practice are mandatory. Must possess attending medical staff privileges at the respective Yale New Haven Health entity.
Experience: A minimum of two (2) years of experience caring for medicine inpatients as a resident and/or attending physician.
Licensure: Must hold a valid Connecticut medical license, Connecticut Controlled Substance Registration, and Federal Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) Certification.
Special Skills: Exceptional clinical, interpersonal, and organizational skills are required. Ability to work independently is essential.
Physical Demand: Work hours may vary based on shift requirements as designated by Hospital Leadership.
