OVERVIEW

The Senior Environmental Consultant will play a crucial role in conducting comprehensive environmental assessments and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to produce documentation that aids clients in securing project approvals under the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) and the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Technical Analysis:
  • Perform environmental assessments aligned with project specifications and established CEQA/NEPA guidelines to identify potential environmental impacts.
  • Investigate local and state zoning and planning laws to ascertain their relevance to specific operations and proposed developments.
  • Stay informed about the latest changes in CEQA/NEPA regulations and requirements.
  • Possess a foundational understanding of applicable emissions modeling techniques.
  • Foster and maintain professional relationships with various local and regional planning and development authorities.
  • Coordinate with necessary subcontractors to deliver essential components for client projects.
  • Represent clients at local agency meetings, providing technical support for their projects.

  1. Regulatory Expertise:
  • Compile environmental documentation including CE, ISMND, EIR, EA, EIS, General Plan Amendments, Zone Changes, and other application materials required for submission to regulatory bodies.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of existing regulations while continuously reviewing new and proposed regulations relevant to current and prospective clients.

  1. Project Management:
  • Build and sustain relationships with existing clients while identifying opportunities for new project engagements; communicate analytical results effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Engage with key stakeholders to meet project objectives.
  • Ensure timely delivery of high-quality outputs to clients and regulatory agencies, adhering to budget constraints.
  • Draft proposals to support incoming CEQA/NEPA initiatives.
  • Oversee project billing and invoicing processes for clients on a monthly basis.

SUPERVISORY ROLE

This position may include supervisory responsibilities depending on the candidate's experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

To excel in this role, candidates must demonstrate the ability to fulfill essential duties effectively. The following qualifications are essential:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Urban Planning, Engineering, or a related field from an accredited institution; and one to three years of relevant experience or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including basic programming, word processing, and spreadsheet software, particularly Microsoft Office.

LANGUAGE AND COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret business documents, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Capable of writing reports, business correspondence, and procedural manuals. Proficient in presenting information and addressing inquiries from diverse audiences.

MATHEMATICAL AND REASONING ABILITIES

Ability to perform calculations involving discounts, interest, proportions, percentages, and basic algebra and geometry. Capable of solving practical problems and interpreting various forms of instructions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

The physical demands of this role require regular sitting, hand usage, and verbal communication. Occasional standing, walking, and lifting of up to 10 pounds may be necessary, along with some fieldwork.
