About the Position:

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Advising Fellow to join our team in the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Virginia. As an Advising Fellow, you will play a critical role in supporting the successful transition of students to the College, providing pre-major advising and course enrollment, and integrating with our first-year Engagements curriculum.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with students using various modalities to provide maximum connection and support.
  • Introduce students to the range of student support resources available across the university.
  • Assist students in course registration and degree declaration.
  • Actively manage progress towards graduation for advisees in portfolio and refer students to advising specialists when needed.
  • Participate in an Advising Community of Practice in the College.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the liberal arts and sciences.
  • Maintain and possess knowledge about College curriculum and College and University academic policies.
  • Demonstrate commitment to the value and purpose of a liberal arts education.
  • Have an empathetic and student-centered approach to supporting students.
  • Maintain knowledge of College curricular requirements.
  • Demonstrate and maintain knowledge of research and best practices in student academic support.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master's or terminal degree preferred.
