Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Building Codes Compliance Specialist to join our team at the City of Odessa. As a key member of our Building Inspections Division, you will be responsible for ensuring compliance with building codes and ordinances adopted by the City.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough and accurate on-site inspections to ensure compliance with building codes and ordinances.
  • Review and interpret building plans and specifications to identify potential code violations.
  • Document and report inspection results and enforcement actions in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Communicate effectively with property owners, contractors, and other stakeholders to resolve code compliance issues.
  • Participate in training and cross-training activities to stay up-to-date on building codes and inspection procedures.
  • Collaborate with other City departments to ensure consistent enforcement of building codes and ordinances.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of building codes, ordinances, and related laws to ensure accurate and effective enforcement.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; 2 years of experience in commercial and/or residential construction preferred.
  • Considerable knowledge of one or more major construction trades, including building, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret building plans and specifications, as well as understand and apply building codes and ordinances.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • State of Texas Master, Journeyman Plumbing License and ability to pass the Plumbing Inspectors exam from the Texas State Board of Plumbing Examiners within 6 months.
  • Extensive knowledge of plumbing trade, plumbing codes, and related ordinances adopted by the City of Odessa, State of Texas plumbing licensing laws, and related items.
