Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Licensed Vocational Nurse III to join our team at the Texas Department of Aging & Disability Services. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will provide advanced vocational nursing care to individuals with complex medical, mental health, and/or behavioral health issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Administer medications and treatments orally, rectally, internally, or by injection.
  • Make rounds and/or home visits as needed and work in other locations at the SSLC as needed.
  • Perform complex and technical nursing procedures according to facility and state regulations.
  • Collect specimens for laboratory examination and conduct appropriate screening tests when requested by lab personnel.
  • Monitor individuals' weight, diet, feedings, and vital signs.
  • Monitor individuals' health status after treatments and procedures.
  • Recognize symptoms of illness and report accurately to RN and/or Primary Care Provider.
Requirements:
  • Knowledge of nursing care standards, nursing procedures and techniques, and of the principles and processes used in providing appropriate patient care.
  • Knowledge of emergency procedures and emergency equipment, i.e., CPR, and ability to assess and care for residents and/or staff members in emergency situations.
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws and Intermediate Care Facility for individuals with intellectual disabilities (ICF-IID) rules, regulations, policy, and procedures related to State Supported Living Center or ability to quickly gain that knowledge.
  • Skills in using reasoning to identify problems and in considering appropriate resolution of situations.
  • Ability to organize, coordinate, and evaluate nursing activities and delivery of health services; to interpret policies and procedures; to interpret health care regulations; to recognize patterns of medical necessity treatment; and to plan, assign, and/or oversee the work of others.
