Job Summary

The Health Technician (Telehealth Clinical) plays a crucial role in supporting and managing telehealth operations within the Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration. This position requires a generalist with a strong understanding of healthcare operations and a willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support clinical telehealth encounters for patients and providers, serving as a telepresenter within the scope of practice.
  • Prepare the clinical environment, including setting up medical and telecommunications equipment for clinical examinations and treatments.
  • Establish and maintain video conferencing connections, make introductions between patient and provider sites, and follow instructions from clinicians to facilitate effective clinical encounters.
  • Act as an imager and clinical data manager for store and forward telehealth clinical encounters, capturing images, collecting data, and transmitting them electronically for clinical review.
  • Ensure patient care is delivered safely by following appropriate procedures for inventory management, cleaning of clinical equipment, and patient safety guidelines.
  • Complete standardized clinical questionnaires and templates within the scope of training and applicable guidelines.
  • Protect patient privacy by complying with information security and patient privacy regulations.
  • Receive and schedule requests for telehealth appointments, screen patients for telehealth modality, and refer patients who do not meet established criteria to appropriate care.
  • Monitor and maintain schedules of rooms, patients, technologies, clinical providers, and presenters to ensure efficient telehealth operations.
  • Provide patient education via approved materials and support veterans in completing patient satisfaction surveys.
  • Communicate effectively with clinical and administrative staff at local and remote sites of care.
  • Configure, install, troubleshoot, clean, and perform minor routine maintenance of assigned telehealth technology.
  • Ensure assigned telehealth technologies are managed appropriately, including inventory, security, and readiness for use.
Requirements
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
  • One year of experience in a healthcare field, demonstrating the ability to perform the work or providing an understanding of the work.
  • Four academic years above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the healthcare field.
  • Equivalent combination of experience and education is also acceptable.
Preferred Experience

Telehealth experience is highly desirable.

Physical Requirements

The work requires some physical exertion, including prolonged periods of standing, bending, reaching, crouching, stooping, stretching, and lifting moderately heavy items.

The work requires above-average agility and dexterity.

The incumbent may be required to travel between VA and/or non-VA clinical care sites, and possession of a valid driver's license may be required.
