Job Summary:

Tucson Electric Power is seeking a skilled Metering Technician to join our team. As a Metering Technician, you will be responsible for installing, testing, and maintaining electric meters and other related equipment. This is a critical role that requires attention to detail, strong technical skills, and excellent communication abilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Install and test electric meters and other related equipment
  • Maintain and repair existing meters and equipment
  • Perform investigations of metering problems and make repairs or advise customers of possible solutions
  • Work on energized equipment at secondary voltage levels not to exceed 600 volts
  • Construct and maintain primary metering equipment when de-energized and grounded
  • Utilize personal computers to program electronic meter registers, download data recorders, and complete daily reports
  • Inspect new meter panels to verify compliance with company, local, and other agency requirements

Requirements:

  • Must have successfully completed a metering apprenticeship or comparable apprenticeship or training program
  • Ability to investigate and resolve complaints and problems relating to metering promptly and efficiently
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, perform metering calculations using algebra and trigonometry, and carry out all phases of calibration, repair, and maintenance of meters
  • Working knowledge of computer hardware and software as it pertains to the metering industry
  • Ability to construct, maintain, and install secondary metering equipment both energized and de-energized
  • Train and instruct apprentices and other employees in metering practices, installations, and safety procedures

Working Conditions:

The Metering Technician will work in a fast-paced environment with frequent exposure to electrical equipment and potentially hazardous situations. The ability to work overtime and emergency call-out duties is required.
