KBR is in search of an experienced Terrain Modeler/Builder with a robust background of 8-15 years in the field to enhance our capabilities in crafting high-quality terrain models tailored for simulation and training applications. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of simulation technologies and a commitment to creating engaging training environments. Responsibilities include the development of precise and lifelike terrain models that are essential for simulation and training scenarios. A solid grasp of geographical information systems (GIS), terrain modeling, and military operational contexts is required. This is a full-time on-site role.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Employ GIS software and tools to create and refine terrain databases. Collaborate with subject matter experts to accurately depict operational settings, including various landscapes. Ensure that terrain models fulfill performance and fidelity standards across multiple simulation platforms.
  • Utilize diverse terrain modeling software to design realistic landscapes, incorporating elevation, textures, and features. Work closely with simulation and training teams to align terrain models with existing simulation frameworks. Conduct quality assurance and testing to verify that terrain models meet established performance and accuracy benchmarks.
  • Oversee the organization and documentation of terrain model assets for seamless integration and future enhancements. Collaborate with other 3D artists, developers, and technical teams to ensure the smooth incorporation of terrain models into simulation systems. Stay updated on industry advancements, tools, and methodologies related to terrain modeling and simulation.
  • Provide technical assistance and troubleshooting for terrain-related challenges throughout the development and implementation processes.

Essential Qualifications:

Clearance & Citizenship: Must be a US Citizen and eligible for a DoD Secret Clearance.

Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Graphics, Game Design, Simulation Engineering, or a related technical discipline.

Experience: 8-15 years of expertise in terrain modeling and construction for simulation and training applications.

Technical Skills:

  • Proficient in terrain modeling software such as Unreal Engine, Unity, 3ds Max, Maya, or equivalent platforms.
  • Strong knowledge of terrain data formats, geospatial data integration, and optimization methods.
  • Experience with texture mapping, elevation data, and procedural terrain generation.
  • Familiarity with simulation frameworks and standards (e.g., HLA, DIS) and their implications for terrain modeling.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and the capacity to work under tight deadlines while upholding high-quality standards.
  • Strong communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced degrees or relevant certifications are advantageous.
  • Experience in terrain modeling for specific simulation sectors such as military, aerospace, or automotive training.
  • Knowledge of additional software tools and technologies for terrain generation, including GIS systems or satellite data.
  • Experience with real-time simulation environments and VR/AR integration.
  • Background in scripting or programming related to terrain modeling and simulation.
