Job Title: Forest Development Technician

About the Role:

This position is part of the Santa Clara Pueblo Administrative team, responsible for contributing to the success of the forestry department. As a Forest Development Technician, you will play a vital role in assisting with various tasks related to forest development and restoration.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Timber Stand Improvement and Reforestation: Assist in planning and coordinating timber stand improvement programs, including prescribing cutting practices based on stand conditions and resource requirements.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Collect, process, and analyze data related to forest development and restoration projects.
  • Collaboration with Greenhouses and Seed Processors: Coordinate with greenhouses and seed processors to ensure adequate seed supplies for reforestation needs.
  • Disease and Insect Outbreak Detection: Examine forests for disease and insect outbreaks, making recommendations for treatments and preventative measures.
  • Proposal Writing and Contracting: Assist in writing and developing contracts, as well as preparing proposals for funding future projects.

Requirements:

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent; Bachelor's degree in Forestry, Ecosystem Management, Natural Resources, or a related field preferred.
  • Experience: One to three years of experience in forestry or environmental practices.
  • Licenses and Certifications: Valid New Mexico Driver's License and insurable through the Tribe's insurance carrier.
