Job Title: Attorney I

Fort Bend County is a rapidly growing community that values diversity and inclusivity. We are seeking a highly skilled Attorney I to join our team.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct trials and investigations in criminal and juvenile cases.
  • Represent the District Attorney's office in court proceedings and negotiate plea bargains.
  • Provide counsel to law enforcement agencies and review complaints for contested cases.
  • Research legal issues and prepare for motions and trials.
  • Supervise and coordinate the discovery process.
  • Consult with County departments and respond to public inquiries.
  • Liaise with law enforcement and criminal justice agencies.
  • Meet with victims, witnesses, and other agencies to prepare subpoenas and coordinate trial witnesses and evidence.
  • Assist and instruct other employees with their duties.
  • Participate in emergency management activities during a local state of disaster.
Requirements:
  • Doctor of Jurisprudence degree.
  • Three years of job-related experience.
  • Computer, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Trial advocacy, legal research, and library skills.
  • Knowledge of Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, Family Code, and Rules of Evidence.
  • Licensed by the Supreme Court of Texas.
Benefits:

Starting salary range begins at $101,504.00 annually. Bar dues and CLE are paid by the office. Relevant Texas Board of Legal Specialization certifications allow for additional compensation of $5,000 annually.
