**Job Summary:**

The Specialty Pharmacist is responsible for performing the duties of a licensed pharmacist, ensuring adherence to laws and regulations, and maintaining compliance with State Board of Pharmacy regulations as well as local, state, and federal requirements as it pertains to prescriptions.



**Key Responsibilities:**



* Maintains established procedures concerning quality assurance, security, and inventory of controlled substances, and disposal of drugs designated as hazardous waste.


* Ensures compliance with laws governing the practice of pharmacy and distribution of drugs.


* Engages in consultation with prescriber regarding providing pharmaceutical care.


* Answers questions and provides information to patients on drug interaction, side effects, dosage, and storage of pharmaceuticals.


* Ensures that stock and supplies necessary for customer care are ordered, stored, and handled in an organized and efficient manner.


* Leads the activities of pharmacy technicians and delivery/equipment technicians.


* Dispenses and compounds drugs.


* Plans, implements, and maintains procedures for mixing, packaging, and labeling pharmaceuticals, according to policy and legal requirements, and ensures quality, security, and proper disposal.


* Assists the patient delivery representative in orders, receiving, maintaining, and tracking all infusion-related equipment.


* May be required to travel to different worksites and other locations as necessary.



**Requirements:**



* Requires a BA/BS degree in Pharmacy or Pharm D and a minimum of 1 year of experience working as a Pharmacist in a clinic and/or alternate site/home health pharmacy service; or any combination of education and experience that would provide an equivalent background.


* Requires a current active unrestricted license to practice pharmacy as a Registered Pharmacist (RPh).


* Multi-state licensure is required if this individual is providing services in multiple states.


* For Paragon and Carelon Health business unit, satisfactory completion of a Tuberculosis test is a requirement for this position.



**Preferred Skills:**

Sterile Compounding preferred.

**Hybrid Workforce Strategy:**

Elevance Health operates in a Hybrid Workforce Strategy. Unless specified as primarily virtual by the hiring manager, associates are required to work at an Elevance Health location at least once per week, and potentially several times per week.
